A "First" Thank You
It is always a great thrill in life to experience a "first." I'm sure you know what I mean: a first day of school, a first job, a first love, a first home.
So it is a special privilege for me to enjoy another "first" in my own life: my first opportunity as president to thank all those who have supported Seattle Pacific University with a financial gift. I can say with confidence that your support this past year has had a profound influence on the lives of our students — and on SPU's ability to fulfill its vision for engaging the culture and changing the world.
"Firsts" often represent the movement from one stage of life to another, as when students graduate from Seattle Pacific. It's a time of growth, engagement, and even surprise, as they begin to achieve things they never dreamed they could.
I believe this is possible only because of the solid foundation SPU offers. Your financial support is key to providing students with an education that challenges and develops their intellect, fosters their spiritual growth and discipleship, and then inspires them to explore ways of engaging the culture and changing the world. It is not a stretch to believe that the next "first" in the life of a young SPU graduate will be the genesis of a new project or discovery that resolves a critical world issue. In ways both big and small, our students and alumni are truly changing the world.
I hope this is the first of many thank you's from me to everyone who so graciously and generously gives to SPU. As we move ahead, it will be exciting to see what "firsts" your giving produces through the lives of our students.
May God richly bless your generosity.
