Fixed income no barrier to giving

Bernice Dye’s now-deceased husband, David, taught at Seattle Pacific University part-time in the ‘50s, and their son, Daniel, graduated from SPU in 1974 with a degree in biochemistry.
Because she likes what the University accomplishes in the name of Christ, she established a gift annuity that provides both valuable support to Seattle Pacific and regular payments to her (with certain welcome tax advantages). “It's like giving myself a gift twice a year,” she says. “On a fixed income, it always comes as a nice extra.” She's also excited to take advantage of the Pension Protection Act and donate a part of her IRA to SPU tax-free.
These are busy days for Bernice. Besides the occasional evening at a Gilbert & Sullivan light opera, she performs with The Antique Kids, a senior line-dancing troupe.
