ABOUT THE SEATTLE PACIFIC FOUNDATION
The Seattle Pacific Foundation, established in March 1979, was immediately charged with the goal of "Endowing the Future of Seattle Pacific University." Through the vision and foresight of alumni, the Board of Trustees and the University administration, it was realized that increasing costs would place difficult financial burdens on both students and programs if solutions were not found. By implementing this focus on endowment growth, not only has progress been made for the future, but also thousands of students have already benefited from scholarships funded by endowments.
Through the ongoing gifts of alumni and friends and the prudent investment management of the Foundation's staff and volunteer board, progress is being made in meeting financial aid needs. During this current academic year, SPU students will benefit from more than $1,054,000 in scholarships directly funded by over 203 separate endowment funds. While a significant contribution, it is still far short of what is really needed.
Established as a separate nonprofit supporting organization with its own board of directors and investment committee, the Seattle Pacific Foundation provides professional management for the University's endowment. An endowment is a fund set aside and invested for the purpose of earning income that can then be used to provide scholarships or support for academic programs. The principal amount of each endowment is kept intact so it can continue to earn income in perpetuity. Enlarging the endowment base makes it possible to increase financial aid assistance and in turn to help more students who want to attend SPU.

Jan Higbee Falconette Scholarship Endowment
Seattle Pacific University is pleased to announce the establishment of the Jan Higbee Falconette Scholarship Endowment. This gift is given by Gary and Nola Higbee in honor of their daughter, Jan Higbee. Jan is a fourth generation alumna of Seattle Pacific. Both Jan and her mother, Nola were members of the Falconettes and Jan has served as the campus advisor to the Falconettes since 1998. Gary and Nola intend this fund to provide scholarships for female undergraduate students who are members of the Falconette service organization.

Bruce and Doris Eileen Kibble Scholarship
Seattle Pacific University is pleased to announce the establishment of the Bruce and Doris Eileen Kibble Scholarship Endowment. This gift is given by Ted and Carol Kibble to honor his father and mother for their love, encouragement, wisdom and example. Ted has served on the board of directors of the Seattle Pacific Foundation since 1989 and the Seattle Pacific University Board of Trustees from 1998 through 2007. This fund will provide scholarships for undergraduate or graduate students studying nursing in the School of Health Sciences.

John M. Root Teacher Education Scholarship Endowment
Seattle Pacific University is pleased to announce the establishment of the John M. Root Teacher Education Endowment. This gift is given by Leonard and Edith Root in memory of Leonard’s father, John M. Root. Both Leonard (Class of 1950) and Edith (Class of 1949), along with their two children and Leonard’s father, John, are SPU alumni. The couple has used their degrees to serve a combined total of 64 years in the South King County School District. Continuing their lifelong commitment to education, Leonard and Edith intend this fund to provide scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the teacher education program.

Bartholomew Edwin Wall Memorial Faculty Development Endowment
Seattle Pacific University is pleased to announce the establishment of the Bartholomew Edwin Wall Memorial Faculty Development Endowment. This gift is given by Robert and Elizabeth Wall in memory of their grandson, Bartholomew Edwin Wall. Robert and Elizabeth’s son, Robert W. Wall, has served on the faculty of SPU since 1978, and currently chairs the Department of Christian Scriptures in the School of Theology. With the belief that faculty members of a world-class university should receive ongoing education in their academic disciplines, Robert and Elizabeth intend this grant to fund faculty development in the School of Theology.
Winfred N. and Evangeline C. Thuline Family Scholarship Endowment
Seattle Pacific University is pleased to announce the establishment of the Winfred N. and Evangeline C. Thuline Family Scholarship. This gift was given by Horace and Janice Thuline in memory of Horace’s father, Winfred and his wife, Evangeline. Winfred attended Seattle Seminary during his high school years and was the only student to graduate from Seattle Pacific College in 1919 with a bachelor of arts degree. He then followed his call to India, where he served as a missionary with the Free Methodist Church from 1919 to 1932. This endowment will support scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in natural sciences, such as chemistry, biology and physics.

Orville D. Parnell and Vera Miller Parnell Scholarship Endowment
Seattle Pacific University is pleased to announce the establishment of the Orville D. Parnell and Vera Miller Parnell Scholarship Endowment. Orville graduated from Seattle Pacific in 1938, the same year as his late wife, Vera. After earning a master's degree in religion from Pasadena Nazarene College and a master's degree in reading from the University of Oregon, Orville had a long and distinguished career as a teacher and principal.
He established this endowment in part to honor the memory of C. Hoyt Watson, president of Seattle Pacific from 1926–1959, who provided employment opportunities to Orville that enabled him to remain in school. The fund will support scholarships for students who need financial assistance to continue studying at SPU.

O. Karl Krienke Undergraduate Research Endowment
SPU is pleased to announce the establishment of the O. Karl Krienke Undergraduate Research Endowment. Karl Krienke earned his bachelor's degree and master's degree from Seattle Pacific in 1953 and 1955 respectively. He served as professor of mathematics and physics at Seattle Pacific from 1953 to 1997 and as dean of natural and mathematical sciences from 1980 to 1994.
The purpose of this endowment is to provide summer stipends for undergraduate research students and their Seattle Pacific faculty mentors, to fund research supplies, and to support the dissemination of undergraduate research findings in print and at local, regional, and national conferences.

Wallace Family Endowment for the School of Business and Economics
SPU is pleased to announce the establishment of this new endowment by Robert C. and Joan S. Wallace. Robert (Class of 1969) and Joan (Class of 1969) Wallace, their daughter, and Robert’s mother and father are all Seattle Pacific alums. In addition, Robert and Joan, and Robert’s father, have all served on the Board of Trustees.
The purpose of this endowment is to provide funding for the School of Business and Economics’ Center for Integrity in Business.

Dudley Family Scholarship Endowment
SPU is pleased to announce the establishment of the Dudley Family Scholarship Endowment. This gift is given by Steve and Gabrielle Dudley and their children, Renee and Daniel. Gabrielle graduated from SPU in 1982 and Renee is an SPU sophomore; Daniel arrives at SPU in Autumn 2008. - The purpose of this permanent fund is to provide scholarships for undergraduate students who have demonstrated high academic achievement and financial need. Further, the scholarships will be awarded to students who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to student leadership activities and/or other forms of Christian service, and who have the potential to best exemplify Seattle Pacific’s mission to graduate students of competence and character to engage the culture and change the world.
- Larry H Hemry Memorial Endowment
Seattle Pacific University is pleased to announce the establishment of the Larry H. Hemry Memorial Endowment. This gift is given by Larry H. Hemry who graduated from Seattle Pacific in 1963 with a bachelor of arts degree in biblical studies. Larry has a particular knowledge of and passion for the founding families of Seattle Pacific, specifically the Hemry family, and desires to have their values of providing a Christian education passed on to future generations of SPU students. Larry intends this fund to provide scholarships for students who know and appreciate the values and sacrifices made by the founding families of Seattle Pacific. - 6.9.2007
- Friends of the SPU Library Endowment
Seattle Pacific University is pleased to announce the establishment of the Friends of the SPU Library Endowment. Richard Hedges, Ph.D. of Mercer Island, Wash., and Bryce Nelson, Ph.D., Seattle Pacific librarian, initiated this endowment with substantial gifts. The endowment will provide students attending SPU with additional library resources and services that are needed to complement their education while studying at the University. This endowment is open for contributions from members of the Friends of the Library and others who wish to support the ongoing needs of the Library.
